Welcome to Southland Maine Coons!

My name is Marcella Wylhuizen, but my friends call me Marcy. As a passionate Maine Coon breeder, my mission is to raise well-rounded, healthy cats that embody the best of this magnificent breed.

At Southland, we take a comprehensive approach to ensure our breeding stock is of the highest quality. Before any cat is considered for our breeding program, we perform thorough health testing. This includes echocardiograms to screen for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), as DNA testing alone is not sufficient to detect all mutations. We also evaluate hip conformation to rule out dysplasia and conduct a full DNA panel for conditions like Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PK) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Our commitment to excellence extends beyond health testing. We raise our Maine Coons in our home, providing a nurturing environment that allows them to thrive and become well-socialized companions. Moreover, we believe in the benefits of a species-appropriate raw diet, which we carefully formulate to meet the nutritional needs of our feline family members.
