Feeding cats a raw diet that is best suited for their health and well-being. Cats are strict carnivores. They may consume small amounts of plant matter when eating prey but lack the physiology required to efficiently digest vegetable matter.
As a breeder, it is very important to have proper nutrients for my cats. Feeding a properly balanced raw diet will help prevent health issues, in the long run. Raw is a more natural diet for cats. It is this breeder's option that feeding dry, over-processed kibble with grains is like feeding junk food. Many processed foods include grains, legumes or rice. This is not a natural food for cats. Cats cannot digest these types of foods easily and can run into gastrointestinal problems. It is best to avoid food that contains fillers and by-products with little nutritional value. They require nutrients that include vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids. Their natural diet is very low in carbohydrates. So many cats suffer from diseases that are related to diet. Eating bones like chicken necks and wing tips will help clean your cats teeth. When on a raw diet your cat will produce fewer stools. The odor will be less as well. With a more natural diet like raw your vet bills will decrease or be non-existent. Here are some other links on feline nutrition
Crystals in Cats:
Cats in general don't drink enough water and can run into problems with crystals in their urine. Eating raw helps prevent this condition and will save you hundreds of dollars at the vet. I also add more water on top of my raw to make sure they are drinking enough. I usually just add 3 tablespoons of water. Cats are natural carnivores and need to eat meat.
Hip Dysplasia:
Genetics and nutrition play a role in keeping your cat healthy.
Proper bone content will ensure a healthy bone structure. Making sure your cat is getting enough calcium when they are growing is crucial. When feeding pre-made raw the proper amount of bone is added ensuring that your cat is getting 7-10 % bone.
Pre-made Raw Food Brands:
Here are some of the raw brands that I feed.
I always try to feed them a variety so they don't bored of the same food every day. some of my favorites are Big Country Breeders Blend and Game Bird. They enjoy having whole Quail or a chicken neck once a week. Bold by Nature they like the turkey. Cornerstone Meat and Bone has a nice Beef and Chicken blend. With feeding raw your cat will have a healthy life and live to an old age.
